This explains what Provi collects when you use the app, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have — including exactly what happens to your data when you delete your account.
This draft was written to accurately describe how the Provi app actually works today. It has not been reviewed by a lawyer. Have counsel review it — and confirm it matches applicable law in your operating jurisdictions — before linking it from the app or App Store Connect.
Scope & who we are
Provi ("we," "us," "our") operates the Provi mobile app, a marketplace that connects Customers booking home services with independent local Businesses that perform them, currently serving the Austin, TX area. This policy covers the Provi app and the backend services it talks to. It doesn't cover third-party sites you might reach by tapping a link out of the app (for example, Stripe's own hosted onboarding pages).
If you have questions about anything in this policy, see Contact us at the bottom.
Information we collect
We collect what's needed to run a two-sided marketplace: enough to create your account, connect you with the right person, get a job priced and paid for, and keep the platform trustworthy.
Account information
| Field | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Email & password | Signing in. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider — we never see or store the plain password. |
| Full name | Displayed to the other party on a job so you know who you're dealing with. |
| Phone (optional) | Only if you choose to add one, for day-of-job contact. |
| Account type | Customer or Business — sets which side of the marketplace you see. |
Business information
| Field | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Business name & description | Shown to Customers on offers and after a job is booked. |
| Service categories & coverage area | Determines which jobs you're shown. |
| Verification status | Every Business is manually reviewed before going live; haircut services additionally require verified barber licensing. |
| Payout details | Collected and stored directly by Stripe during Connect onboarding, not by Provi — see Who we share it with. |
Job & location information
| Field | Why we ask |
|---|---|
| Job address | Typed by you, or filled automatically if you grant location permission — tells the Business where to go. |
| Device location (optional) | Only requested when you tap "Use my current location," and only to look up the address at that moment. We don't track your location in the background. |
| Job photos | What the AI price is based on. See Photos & the AI price. |
Payment & transaction records
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles that directly and Provi only receives confirmation that a charge succeeded. What we do store: the job amount, platform fee, business payout amount, tip amount, and Stripe's own reference ID for the transaction, so both sides have a record of what was charged and paid out.
Device & notification data
A device push token (so we can notify you about offers, job updates, and payments) and whether you've turned push notifications on or off.
What we don't collect
Provi does not currently use any third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not sell personal information to anyone.
Photos & the AI price
When you post a job, the photos you submit are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a fair market price estimate and a short breakdown of the work. Before/after photos a Business uploads to document completed work are stored the same way, and evidence photos submitted with a dispute are used only to review that dispute.
Photos are stored in our cloud storage provider (Supabase) and are visible to the Customer and Business involved in that specific job, and to Provi staff reviewing a dispute. They are not used to train any AI model, and are not shared outside the parties involved in the job unless required by law.
How we use it
- Operate the marketplace — matching Customers with Businesses, pricing jobs, processing payments and payouts.
- Communicate with you — job updates, offers, payment confirmations, dispute outcomes, and account-related notices.
- Verify Businesses before they can accept jobs, including barber license checks for haircut services.
- Investigate and resolve disputes between Customers and Businesses.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
How long we keep it
We keep account and job data for as long as your account is active, plus a period afterward to satisfy tax, accounting, and legal record-keeping requirements — typically a matter of years for financial transaction records, consistent with standard bookkeeping practice.
Job, payment, and review history is never deleted outright, even when an account is deleted — see the next section for exactly why, and what actually happens to your personal details.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account any time from Profile → Delete Account inside the app. Here's exactly what that does, and — just as importantly — what it doesn't:
What's removed: your name, email, phone number, profile photo, and (for Businesses) your business name and description are all replaced with a generic placeholder. Your push notification token is cleared and you're permanently signed out — you cannot log back into that account.
What's kept: the underlying job, offer, payment, and review records tied to your account stay on file, stripped of your identifying details. This is because a Customer's job history is also the record of a Business having been paid for real work — deleting it outright would erase the other person's legitimate transaction history, which we're also obligated to retain for accounting purposes.
You can't delete your account while a job is still in progress — you'll be asked to finish or cancel it first, so the other party isn't left stranded.
Your rights & choices
- Access & correction — review and edit your profile information directly in the app at any time.
- Deletion — described above.
- Push notifications — turn these off entirely in Profile → Notifications, or at the OS level.
- Location — the app only ever requests location when you explicitly tap "Use my current location"; you can decline and type your address instead, or revoke location permission in your device settings.
- A copy of your data — email us (see Contact us) and we'll provide a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
Security
Card payment details are handled entirely by Stripe and never touch Provi's own servers. Data in our database is protected by row-level access rules so a user can only reach the records they're actually a party to, and traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we take reasonable, industry-standard measures to protect your information.
Children's privacy
Provi involves real financial transactions and is not directed at, or intended for use by, anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
California & other regional rights
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal information — for example, under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or similar state and international laws — including the right to know what we collect, request deletion, and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Provi does not sell personal information. To exercise any regional right, reach out via Contact us and we'll respond consistent with applicable law.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app before they take effect.
